Recommend a TV-show

So I raced through Sunny Happiness because I was pleasantly surprised by it. The quality of the acting was great, plot-wise not original, but it was wonderfully executed. It wasn't the usual silly, light-hearted drama, it had its comic moments along with serious and well written storylines. Overall, definitely one of the better TW ones :)

But because of the drama's high quality, I finished it already.. Yes, I cheated on the Taiwanese version with the Chinese version, but it's not like my viewing makes a difference on the ratings.. I'll still watch the TW version every Sunday because I know they cut the two versions differently.

Anyway, onto my actual point.. Since I have nothing to watch... Please recommend me a new drama or movie :)

Click:

- I'm a big fan of tearjerkers.
I loved One Litre of Tears and Stairway to Heaven.

- I love drama, preferably lots of it, but only if it's realistic..
I loved Summer's Desire and Autumn's Concerto.

- I don't have enough patience for loooong dramas.
It has to be real catchy if it's beyond 25 episodes..

- I don't like the traditional TW dramas..
By that I mean something along the lines of.. Ahem.. Love Buffet ahem... (No offence), but life's too short for bad acting and bad plots.

I don't mind it being Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean, Japanese or American :)

Ooh, you're looking for a new drama? :D Well, you came to the right person! ^_^

Personally, I prefer the fluffy cotton-candy, trendy dramas and gag if there's too much angst/drama, but since you like them, I think I can come up with a few. ^_^ I haven't watched all of these (I saw like 3 minutes of Stairway to Heaven and it made me gag), but I thought you might like them:

Tearjerkers (If you like One Litre of Tears and Stairway to Heaven, you will *love* these, hahah):
Autumn Fairy Tale
Winter Sonata
Will It Snow for Christmas

Drama:
Story of a Man
Que Sera Sera
9 Ends 2 Outs

Lighter ones that still have some nice dramatic scenes:
Secret Garden
49 Days
Who are you?
My Girlfriend is a Gumiho
Dream High

Look 'em up and see if any piques your interest. ^_^ Enjoy! :D

Haha, I believe all the dramas you mentioned are K-dramas :) Again, you've gotta be the queen in that section.

I've heard of Autumn Fairy Tale and Winter Sonata, but just never got around to watch them.

Will It Snow at Christmas sounds quite interesting, although I can't imagine why it's a tearjerker, at least not based on the plotline.

Story of a Man does sound pretty darn dramatic. ^_^

Que Sera Sera could sound a bit like "fluffy cotton-candy", but I might give it a shot later.

9 Ends 2 Outs doesn't sound that interesting, mainly because I'm never that interested in sports, and especially not Baseball. I had to skip a large part of the TW-drama Hot Shot because it was all basketball..

Secret Garden sounded nice at first, but then I read the whole body-swapping.. I'm really bad with "supernatural" plotlines, but I'll keep it in mind, when I've watched everything else ;)

49 days - I saw a trailer earlier, I think. Wasn't all that interesting either. Again, "supernatural" elements. But it looks like it could very well be a tearjerker as well, so maybe it's worth a shot.

Who are you? - Same as above, what's with the whole "borrowing" other people's bodies? :)

My Girlfriend is a Gumiho - hmm, fox and fantasy? Probably not.

Dream High sounds pretty interesting, although how's the acting from these young actors?

From watching too many bad TW-dramas I always fear bad acting, which I often see with young and new actors.

Thanks a lot for all your recommendations! I really appreciate it! I think I'll start out with either Winter Sonata or Will It Snow at Christmas - I'll let you know when I've started and have an opinion ^_^

Wow, what's with the massive essays I'm writing today? :)

Hahah, yes, those were all Kdramas. :D I've found that they often have the best acting, scores, directing, storylines, scripts. ^_^ ....And the best-looking guys, too. xD

Autumn Fairy Tale and Winter Sonata are tearjerkers; because of that I've stayed far away from them, but a lot of people say they're really good. ^_^

Story of a Man is even epicker than you can imagine. :DD

Que Sera Sera sounds a little fluffy, but it's a lot better and more adult than that--it's got fantastic acting and some really, really great serious scenes. ^_^

Hahah, 9 Ends 2 Outs isn't about baseball at all. XD I don't know why on earth they named it that, but there's hardly anything really sporty in it (I agree with you; sports dramas are generally boring and baseball is the worst sport on the planet, hahah). It's a best-friend rom-com, the kind I absolutely love. ^_^

Secret Garden, 49 Days, & Who Are You?--Sorry you don't like supernatural storylines; I don't believe in that kind of stuff at all, but I think body-swapping stories are funny/interesting. ^_^ Who Are You? is more tearjerky than 49 Days; 49 Days is funnier (and it's got JUNG IL WOO! *squee* XD).

My Girlfriend is a Gumiho kinda turned me off too cause of the weird fox stuff, but once you get past that, it's an awesome drama. :D It's funny, cute, the two leads are adorable by themselves and even more so together--they're got nice chemistry and both are great actors. ^_^

Dream High's actors are mostly pop stars so truthfully, the acting isn't that great. But the story is really interesting, the singing/dancing is awesome, the script is funny, and the guys are good-looking--Overall pretty entertaining aesthetically. ^_^ That's enough for me, hahah. :D

Bad acting annoys me too; but I'm pretty forgiving of it if everything is good.

Well, I'm glad I could help you! ^_^ Hope you enjoy the dramas! :D

Hahah, and don't worry about lengthy posts--I'm ecstatic I've actually found someone who actually writes more than I do, and proper English at that! :D *high five*

The drama that cerulean mention autumn in my heart has Chinese version called fall in love I am watching it now n like it so far not as sad as Korean version .. The actors girl is new I think 2 guys one Korean (dennis) n other the main guy of meteor shower...

Oh meteor shower i am watching it now ..after long time I never thought I would watch it coz I like BBF n meteor garden n same story not again... But was running out of drama so gave it try it's surprisingly good different than original n I like the changes they did.. I am liking the main guy more than another version... Others 3 not as good looking as other version but starting grow into me

Hmm.. Sounds like you're a major fan of Story of a Man? :)

I should probably also give Que Sera Sera a shot, since you said it has serious scenes as well. I could stop watching if I don't like it. Although I have such a tendency to "force" myself through dramas, even if I'm really not that into them. I keep thinking, it must get better, or "now I've started already.."

Best-friend rom-com? Probably not my style.. :)

I'm not sure I can get past the fox stuff that easily.. xD I usually dislike supernatural stuff, although sometimes I am surprised. Some supernatural/fantasy movies, dramas etc. have caught my interest, it just doesn't happen so often.

I'm probably more of a drama-queen who likes romance and sad stories.. :)

Hahaha! Why, thank you! :D I've always been told I can't keep it short xD But I agree, I'm not very fond of reading texts in bad English. Of course we've all got spelling mistakes and some grammar errors, but overall I try to make it semi-correct ;)

I'm not sure this comment completely lives up to the expectations though, it's waaay past my bed time :)

Hi Anonymous, I haven't heard of Fall in Love, but I'll check it out.

I haven't even watched Meteor Garden actually, I fear horrible acting... The actors in the drama were so green back then.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! :)

Hahah, yes, I am a major fan of Story of a Man. :D I absolutely love con artist stories. ^_^

I do that too, hahah. Sometimes I just *have* to finish what I started, even though what I started really sucked--like Jiro Wang and Cyndi Wang's "Momo Love" and Joe Cheng and Cai Yi Zhen's "Summer x Summer". Both of those TWdramas sucked so bad it's laughable, and I still can't believe I forced myself through the whole thing. :P Agck. This doesn't happen all the time, though, since I've often started dramas that were actually pretty good (You're Beautiful and Dream High), but got really busy and kinda forgot about it. >_<

Whaat? But I *love* best friend rom-coms! :) They're so fun and make me wish that was my life, hahah.

Alright, alright, if you don't want to watch My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, that's fine. ^_^

I watched the first episode of Meteor Garden; it was okay, but not great. Barbie Hsu looks so young and, well, kinda boring compared to her in Summer's Desire, hahah. Van Ness Wu's hair is so long it's funny, Vic Zhou was okay but a little boring, and I have this inexplicable distaste for Jerry Yan. I have know idea why; maybe it's his face, but I just don't like him. o_O Ken Zhu was the only thing I kinda liked about the first episode, even though he didn't really do anything. Because he has nice hair. XD Have you seen the Korean version, Boys Over Flowers?

Hahah, same here! I have this queer inability to be concise .___. Oh well; at least that's helped me a lot in writing essays. :D

Oddly, I absolutely hate English (it's pretty much the must idiotic language on the planet....) but I'm a stickler for its rules. :P My friends hate me because I'm always correcting their grammar, and think I'm weird for sending texts in perfect English, hahah.

LOL, we're kinda similar in some areas :) I guess it's part of my character, I wanna end everything I start. Whether it's a book, a movie or a drama. But sometimes we should really learn to just stop watching if it's too "painful", cause there are so many good shows out there that deserve to be watched instead ^_^

Hahaha, I almost fell off my chair from reading this sentence: "Van Ness Wu's hair is so long it's funny". - Because the men's hair really put me off. There's long-ish hair that might actually look good on men, and then there's "you're too lazy to get it cut", or "your hair is flippin' longer than mine!" Either way, it's bad. xD

What...?! You don't like Jerry Yan? I won't say I looooove him, but he's decent looking, and his acting has improved tremendously. :) Loved his storyline in Starlit with Terry Kwan. Don't know much about Ken Zhu though..

Oh and nope, haven't seen Boys over Flowers. - Another rom-com? :)

Haha, again, we're kinda similar. Although I love the English language (I speak it more often than my native language), but I also have a tendency to correct grammar quite often. Due to it being my third language, I often make mistakes myself. But I do try my best. My friends also laugh at me for writing extremely long texts and always starting my sentences with capital letters during chats, texts and e-mails. They're like, "who cares." And I'm like, "I care" :)

Hahaha for some reason I didn't like Jerry yan too... Maybe I like vic zhou, n I found is character to selfish in meteor garden but I just don't watch any of his dramas he just turns me off

Mack91 said...

Jerry Yan turns you off? Hmm.. I don't think he's bad looking and I like it when he smiles :) But he isn't the best actor I've ever seen, he's only slightly above average, IMO.
